the branch of a tree and gave birth to the prince who later turned
to be the world peace preacher.
The famous
Maurya Emperor Asoka erected the famous pillar, carving the pillar
as the very place where Buddha took birth, in his visit to this
holy site in 749BC.To the south of this pillar there appears a
sacred pond Puskarni. It is believed that Mayadevi had taken a
bath before some moment of giving birth to Biddha.The main
attraction for pilgrims and archeologists is
Mayadevi
Temple. Other important sites around Lumbini are Tilaurakot,
Arovakot, Niglihawa, Sagarhawa, Gotihawa, Kudar, Ramagrama,
Devdaha and Sishaniya.
